I really shouldn't need to say this, but it's clear a lot of people just don't understand that when they use copyrighted characters they do not have the right to do whatever they want to with them. It's not creative license. It's going against the characters as they are. Unless you have permission from the copyright holders, it's wrong to do this. It's morally wrong, and it's legally wrong. But those that do it are convinced they have the right to do whatever they want. Just because other people do it. It's still wrong. But it's useless to reason with people that want to do these things. The only thing they'd listen to would be a lawsuit from the copyright holder, and then they'd probably rant and rave to the judge that he didn't have the right to settle in favor of the characters' owners, because, you know, it was just in fun, just another interpretation of someone else's characters.
